Construction continues through cold

VAIL ” Here’s an update on major projects in Vail:

Excavation, shoring and concrete pouring continues on the project, which is supposed to be done by 2008. Vail Resorts’ Front Door project includes a new skier services building, a private club, a new spa for the Lodge at Vail and 13 Lodge at Vail Chalets residences.

Crews should start digging wells to remove groundwater by this week or next week, said T.J. Brink of Black Diamond Resorts-Vail, the developer. The developer has reached easement agreements with neighbors, Brink said. Excavation should start in about a month and continue for five months, Brink said.

The estimated completion date is now summer of 2009, Brink said. Permit and easements issues have delayed the progress of the project since a groundbreaking ceremony last winter.

The project will have 120 hotel rooms, 16 condos and 19 fractional-ownership units. The Four Seasons will be just southwest of the main Vail roundabout.

Workers are now relocating a gas line and some electric lines, said Steve Kelley of W.E. O’Neil. Excavation should begin in March, he said.

The Vail Mountainview Residences on Gore Creek are being built on the site of Apollo Park near Ford Park. It will have 24 condos. Construction is expected be completed by 2008.

A grand opening of the complex is scheduled for June 1, said Connie Dorsey, general manager of the project. Workers are now continuing with interior work, Dorsey said.

The project is between the frontage road and East Meadow Drive in Vail Village. The project includes 100 hotel rooms, 38 fractional-ownership units, two restaurants, a bar and a spa. The restaurants will be DaVinci, an Italian restaurant, and Galileo, a casual restaurant. Construction began in November 2004.

Officials from One Willow Bridge Road could not be reached for this story. Late last year, officials said some of the condos would be finished during this ski season.

One Willow Bridge has 10 condos and 12 fractional-ownership units. The marketplace will include a cafeteria, a grocery, a bakery, a sweet shop, a wine bar and a liquor store. One Willow Bridge Road is at the International Bridge and East Meadow Drive in Vail Village.

Windows and roofs are being installed, and plumbing and electrical work continues at the Arrabelle site.

The building began in April and is slated to be completed by late 2007. The Arrabelle will have 67 condos, a 36-room hotel, stores and an ice rink. The building is on the site of the old gondola building in Lionshead.

The Crossroads project is still waiting for final approval from the town’s Design Review Board. About 60 percent of the condos have been sold, said Craig Cohn, director of sales and marketing for the project.

The project will have 69 condos, stores, restaurants, a three-screen movie theater, a 10-lane bowling alley and an ice rink/public plaza.

Workers are finishing up exterior work and continuing interior work, said David Viele of Viele Construction. The first condos should be completed in March, and the project will finish up with landscaping once the snow melts, Viele said.

Construction work began in October and is expected to be completed by late February. The project will have 13 condos. It is just west of the Aria Spa and Club building of the Cascade Resort and Spa, on the site of the old “ruins.”
