VAIL – The town of Vail’s construction season is wrapping up, but town residents and guests still have some detours to go through in the coming weeks, and some projects aren’t scheduled for completion until next year.

Work on South Frontage Road, through Lionshead, has caused traffic delays in recent weeks as crews have reduced traffic to one lane in some areas. The work is going on 7 days a week, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with an expected completion date of Nov. 15 – the day before Vail Mountain is scheduled to open for the 2012-13 ski season.

The Matterhorn Circle bridge replacement is still underway, and the town estimates that project to be finished by Dec. 15, but the town of Vail’s main fire station, near the intersection of Vail Road and Meadow Drive, isn’t scheduled to be completed until May 2013. The station’s firefighters are working from a space below La Bottega, which sits diagonally across from the fire station, until that time. The firefighters must run across the street to get into their fire engines when calls come in.

Lionshead is also undergoing two streetscape projects, one at Concert Hall Plaza and the other at East Lionshead Circle, both of which include landscape and bus stop improvements.

Here’s an update on current construction projects provided by the town of Vail:

The bus stop has been relocated to the Vail Marriott, just west of the Lionshead Place/West Lionshead Circle intersection. The pedestrian overpass stairs to West Lionshead Circle are now open to the public.
