Construction resumes on I-70 bridge project
EAGLE COUNTY — Work began again on the Interstate 70 bridge improvements project in Eagle-Vail on Monday, with bridge rehabilitation work on westbound I-70. Before the completion of the project in mid-June, crews will replace joints on the westbound I-70 bridge, conduct slope and ditch paving in the area and reset the median to its pre-construction configuration.
The focus of this Colorado Department of Transportation project consists of repairing and rehabilitating both the eastbound and westbound bridge structures located at approximately milepost 168.7, at the point where I-70 crosses over both the Eagle River and U.S. Highway 6. Work includes girder repair, bridge deck repair and re-paving and reinforcing current structures.
Work hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 7 a.m. to noon on Fridays. Some night work may be scheduled. Speeds are reduced in the area and from April 19 through May 21, vehicles over 11 feet will be restricted. Boat ramp access to the Eagle River at the construction site will be temporarily inaccessible after the construction start date and bicyclists and pedestrians may expect intermittent delays on the path underneath the work zone.
Structures Inc., of Englewood, is the contractor for the $8.1 million project. It is scheduled for completion before July.
