Containment expected at Royal Gorge fire
CANON CITY, Colorado – A 630-acre wildfire burning near Canon City is close to being fully contained.
The blaze was 85 percent contained Friday and fire crews were hoping to have it fully contained later in the day. All evacuation orders have been lifted and the Arkansas River has been reopened to rafting.
Officials say it was human-caused.
Other fires have been causing problems around the state.
A fire at Rocky Mountain National Park burned up to five acres about five miles north of Estes Park.
Another fire burned three outbuildings and forced the closure of U.S. 34 in Grand Lake, 55 miles northwest of Denver.
In Elbert County, officials said a wildfire burned about 90 acres, a haystack, a barn and a vehicle before it was contained Thursday.
