Controlled burn planned near Gypsum

Vail Daily staff report
Gypsum, CO Colorado

GYPSUM, Colorado ” Forest Service fire crews will set controlled burns near Gypsum today, weather permitting.

The 700-acre Dewy Park burn project is located approximately nine miles south of Gypsum, Colorado in the Dewey Park and Miller Gulch area on the north side of Hardscrabble Mountain on National Forest lands. The Forest Service plans to use a helicopter to light fires.

The purpose of the fire is to get rid of dead timber and brush that could intensify any fires. That also will allow fresh vegetation to grow to feed deer and elk.
