Controlled fire planned near Burns
BURNS – Federal fire officials are planning a small controlled fire about three miles southeast of Burns. Crews from the Upper Colorado River Interagency Fire Management Unit are planning to burn about 20 acres of willow and mountain shrub along Castle Creek this week. The prescribed fire should reduce dense vegetation to lessen the chance of catastrophic wildfires, improve wildlife habitat and increase livestock forage. Burning this area should improve the health and vigor of the vegetation along Castle Creek.The burn is about 25 miles northwest of Eagle on lands administered by the Bureau of Land Management.Vail, Colorado
