Cookie contest sweetens Beav’s opening day

BEAVER CREEK – Fresh snow and more than 5,000 warm chocolate chip cookies will treat skiers and riders on Beaver Creek’s opening day Nov. 23. Guests can vote for their favorite homemade cookies as the resort kicks off its 25th anniversary season with the second annual Beaver Creek Cookie Competition. The resort has received nearly two feet of snow in the past six days.

“Anyone with a sweet tooth and a passion for powder can indulge at Beaver Creek’s opening day. We’re leaving it to our discerning guests to choose the ultimate chocolate chip cookie to become the resort’s signature treat,” said Tony O’Rourke, executive director of the Beaver Creek Resort Company.Guests can taste five varieties of chocolate chip cookies from 2-2:30 p.m. on Nov. 23. Five pre-selected cookie bakers will each serve 1,000 fresh cookies on Beaver Creek Plaza by the ice rink. Guests can vote for their favorite cookie and the winner will be announced at the Grand Staircase on the plaza at 3 p.m. The winning cookie will become the resort’s signature cookie, with the recipe to be used for special occasions throughout the winter.

The cookie competition is free and open to the public for judging. Cookies will be provided by amateur bakers and competition finalists Kristin Durnin of Vail, Stacey Klein of Avon, Jarrod Carman of Avon, Nathan Putens of Vail and Dawn Pimmel of Highlands Ranch.For more information about the Beaver Creek Cookie Competition and other events, call Beaver Creek Information at 845-9090.
