‘Cookouts for a Cause’ begin Wednesday in Edwards
Vail, CO Colorado
VAIL, Colorado – The Vail Valley Foundation Youth Foundation’s “Cookouts for a Cause” help raise much needed funds to build a new greenhouse for the Sowing Seeds program at Edwards Elementary School.
Priced at $25 per ticket and scheduled from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Crazy Mountain Brewery in Edwards and Sept. 11, at the Bonfire Brewing Company in Eagle, “Cookouts for a Cause” will feature fresh food, prepared by award-winning Chef Kelly Liken of Vail’s Restaurant Kelly Liken, along with two free beers from the respective hosts.
“The prospect of being able to add a greenhouse to the Sowing Seeds experience at Edwards Elementary is very exciting, not only for us, but for the students,” said Susie Davis, vice president of education for the Vail Valley Foundation. “The greenhouse will allow us to take lessons from the classroom directly to the real world.”
Created by the VVF’s Youth Foundation in 2010, Sowing Seeds provides the opportunity for students to plant and care for their own gardens in the Brush Creek greenhouse and Edwards raised gardens. The program, now serving over 800 students, not only connects children to their environment, but also fosters an understanding of the origin of food and teaches responsibility through stimulating hands-on activities.
