Cool cats at the Cascade
VAIL – There’s a difference between going to school and gettin’ schooled. Local jazz guru Tony Gulizia and his jazz cohorts will be schoolin’ folks in the Vail Cascade Resort’s Fireside Lounge. The Jazz Goes to School Quintet is hosting an evening of free music Thursday from 7-11 p.m.
Made up of jazz veterans from across the States, the lineup includes Roger Neumann (tenor and soprano saxophones), Joey Gulizia (drums and percussion), Andy Hall (acoustic and electric bass), Kirk Garrison (trumpet, cornet and flugelhorn) and Tony Gulizia (piano, Hammond B-3 organ and vocals). The quintet is so named because they bring music into local middle schools in an effort to jump-start the musical inclinations of Eagle County youths. They volunteer their time, since they all share a passion for tunes.
“Traditionally this event is standing room only,” said Michael Pastore of the Cascade. “It’s a great end-of-season bash, and there’s no cover. Come one, come all.”
