Cops: 4 kids taken to Rifle drugs-for-guns deal
RIFLE, Colo. ” Police say a man accompanied by his mother brought his four young children to a meeting with an undercover agent for a purported deal involving weapons, marijuana and money.
The Two Rivers Drug Enforcement Team said Friday that Nathan Gray, 32, and Patricia Marion Gray, 53, were arrested on suspicion of child abuse and drug violations.
All the children were under age 11, the team said in a written release. They were turned over to other family members.
Authorities say the meeting took place Dec. 21 in the Rifle area, and that marijuana was to be swapped for weapons and money. No other details were immediately released.
Both adults were arrested for investigation of misdemeanor child abuse, felony marijuana possession and felony marijuana possession with intent to distribute. Patricia Gray also faces a charge of attempted unlawful purchase of firearms, a felony.
Nathan Gray was released on $8,000 bond but Patricia Gray remained in the Garfield County jail Friday under $30,000 bail. The jail had no record of an attorney for either.
A person who answered a telephone listed for Nathan Gray hung up without answering any questions.
The charges carry sentences of three months to six years in prison and fines of $250 to $500,000.
Both are due back in court on Wednesday.
