VAIL, Colorado ” A Minturn woman has been charged with arson in connection with a fire that broke out at the Middle Creek Apartments on Sunday, the town of Vail says.

Samantha Ludwikoski, 33, of Minturn was arrested at 1:43 a.m. Monday and charged with first-degree arson, a felony, the town of Vail said.

The fire, which was reported at 5:40 p.m. Sunday, caused damage to one apartment in the B building of Middle Creek, a 142-unit affordable housing complex that was completed in 2005.

Investigators say the fire was intentionally set and caused by an “accelerant.”

Two residents were home at the time of the fire and escaped uninjured, officials said. There were no other injuries.

The fire was controlled by a sprinkler head in the apartment, according to the press release. Nearby apartments reportedly had some water damage. Residents were also evacuated.

A police detective who investigated the fire could not be reached Monday. A town spokeswoman did not know what led police to Ludwikoski.
