Cops: Father and son arrested after Hwy. 6 chase

EAGLE-VAIL ” A 21-year-old man assaulted a deputy with a pocket knife after police chased the car he was riding in with his father down Highway 6 in Eagle-Vail, the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies first tried to pull William Leake, 40, of Golden, over Monday night near Stone Creek Drive because he was driving erratically, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Leake sped up but stopped at the Yoder Avenue roundabout, the Sheriff’s Office said.



Leake and his son, Nicholas, 21, of Eagle-Vail, tried to run away from deputies, but when Nicholas was caught, he wounded a deputy with his pocket knife, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The younger Leake was then Tasered by another deputy, the Sheriff’s Office said.



The elder Leake then came out of a stand of trees, saying “Don’t hurt my son.”

Nicholas Leake was arrested on suspicion of first degree assault on a peace officer and resisting arrest. William Leake was arrested on suspicion of DUI, obstructing a peace officer and resisting arrest.

Both father and son are being held in the Eagle County jail. Nicholas is being held on $15,000 bail and William’s bail is $3,500.
