SUMMIT COUNTY – Folks going overboard with their “Gaper Day” celebrations could lose their ski passes for two years or more, according to a flier from the Breckenridge Resort Chamber.

Breckenridge Ski Resort spokeswoman Kristen Petitt confirmed that anyone asked to surrender a pass April 1 and throughout the spring ski season will lose it for a minimum of two years.

The Breckenridge Police Department has announced increased enforcement on what many locals call “Gaper Day.”

“April 1 is not an excuse for disrespectful and abusive behavior or offensive language or dress,” according to a BPD press release.

It is illegal to bring alcohol or marijuana on to ski area property, and there will be a “zero tolerance policy for illegal and disrespectful behavior” on April 1, according to the press release.

Arapahoe Basin Ski Area general manager and COO Alan Henceroth said more Summit County Sheriff’s deputies can be expected at A-Basin.

“We just want people to have fun, and it’s never cool to be making fun of others and ruining other peoples’ day,” he said.
