A native of Dayton, OH, Coran has been playing drums since he was three years old. He joined the Lincoln Elementary School Jazz Ensemble in first grade and played with this band until graduation. He now attends Stivers School for the Arts where he has been the percussion section leader of the Stivers Jazz and Philharmonia Orchestras since the seventh grade.

For each of the past four years, Coran has been selected as a member of the Ohio Music Education Association District Honors Jazz Ensemble. This year he received the Most Outstanding Musicianship and Judges Choice Award at the Berklee College of Music 36th Annual High School Jazz Fest.

He is the lead drummer for his church choir and teaches younger drummers there and at his former elementary school. When time permits, Coran practices his piano and keyboard skills. Two of his goals at the Workshop “are to develop a better sense of listening to other players on the bandstand and to improve my brush playing.”
