Cordillera resident wins trip to Antarctica
July 20, 2010
VAIL, Colorado – The Vail Valley Foundation and Quark Expeditions have given away an Antarctic expedition for two to a local woman.
Stacey Nibbelink, a resident of Cordillera, was selected at random from 14,000 entries on June 14 to take the 12-day expedition across Antarctica in November.
Since June 2009, the Vail Valley Foundation and Quark Expeditions have been collecting entries at Vail Valley Foundation events. Nibbelink entered to win at the Korbel American Ski Classic in March, as well as at Bud Light Street Beat concerts this winter.
Nibbelink is the vice president of the Eagle County Habitat for Humanity and was “stunned” upon learning she had won. She plans to take her husband, Robert, and the couple is “excited for the opportunity to go somewhere most people don’t even dream about going.”
Inspired by this trip, the Nibbelinks now say they plan to visit all seven continents.
Stacey and Robert will leave Vail on Nov. 12 and return on Nov. 26. The expedition includes hiking, cross country skiing and a trip to a penguin habitat.
