Cortez bear bites 2 kids, then runs off
CORTEZ (AP) – A black bear that bit two kids camping on their backyard then ran off is still on the loose in southwest Colorado.
The Colorado Division of Wildlife has set a trap for the bear, which bit a brother and sister around midnight Thursday while the kids were sleeping in their backyard in Cortez.
Both suffered only minor injuries. Officials say the 14-year-old boy screamed and shined his flashlight on the bear, which ran away. The boy and his sister were both bitten on their legs but weren’t seriously hurt.
DOW Patt Dorsey says a trap was set Thursday but that the bear was not caught by Friday afternoon. There have been no other reports of bears in the area.
