VAIL – The Vail Town Council unanimously approved the $2 million purchase of the Wendy’s property in West Vail at its meeting Tuesday night.”I can’t see how this isn’t a win-win for everybody,” said Councilman Mark Gordon. The property is north of Interstate 70 and west of the roundabout and is adjacent to a 3.6-acre parcel that the town already owns. The town has discussed putting the long-promised West Vail fire station on the Wendy’s property. The town will start researching operating costs for the station and begin design work in the fall, Town Manager Stan Zemler said last week. The seller of the property is WendVail Partnerships Ltd. The restaurant will continue to operate until at least March of next year under a lease with the town.Vail resident Bill Jewitt urged the town to consider relocating its offices to the Chamonix, or Hud Wirth, site. He cited the value of the land just off the main Vail roundabout where the town offices currently are.”There’s a number of ways you can win by relocating the town offices to the Hud Wirth site,” he said.Staff Writer Edward Stoner can be reached at 949-0555, ext. 14623, or estoner@vaildaily.com.Vail, Colorado
