Daily Staff Report
Special to the DailyCarolyn Dawn Johnson was nominated Academy of Country Music's Top New Female Vocalist in 2002. She plays at the Vilar Center Monday in Beaver Creek.

Carolyn Dawn Johnson, American Music Awards’ Favorite New Artist in Country Music, will be performing at the Vilar Center for the Arts in Beaver Creek Monday at 7:30 p.m.

Songwriting has been the foundation of Johnson’s success and this is clearly the case with her debut album, “Room With A View.” Comprised entirely of her own writings, “Room With A View” debuted at No. 8 on Billboard Magazine’s Top Country Albums chart and was certified gold in Canada. Her songs often have simple subject matter but are combined with compelling vocals and powerful harmonies to create captivating stories.

“I hope “Room With A View’ can show listeners what I’ve always believed about music,” said Johnson. “It’s powerful, it can reach into our souls, it’s important. I don’t know what I would do without it.”

This passion for music and the power of storytelling has fueled Johnson’s path to success.

Among the awards she’s taken home are the Academy of Country Music’s Top New Female Vocalist in 2002, a hefty eight Canadian Country Music Awards and a 2002 Juno Award. Most recently she was named Favorite New Artist in Country Music at the 30th annual American Music Awards.

Tickets for her performance at the Vilar Center are $40 and are available by calling 845-TIXS Monday through Saturday, 11a.m.-5 p.m. Tickets are also available online at For more information about Johnson visit
