Along the way, he switched his focus from country to gospel, eventually taking a break from his music to work as an actor in a number of films and television shows. In 2008, Travis released the much anticipated album, “Around the Bend,” which was heralded by numerous critics as the perfect country album. This from a review on his website: “‘Around The Bend’ does not have one out-of-place note nor one false emotion. Randy’s vocals have never sounded more expressive, better phrased or more soulfully shaded. The CD’s production is a model of crisp clarity. Each instrumental texture is placed just right. Randy reunited with long-time friend and producer Kyle Lehning to record ‘Around The Bend’, and the result of their collaboration on this album is nothing short of amazing.”His return with this album has literally and figuratively been music to the ears of country fans, disenchanted with the current state of the county music scene. He and Carrie Underwood most recently won a Grammy Award for Best Country Collaboration with vocals for “I Told You So,” showcasing the song as a duet on American Idol. His stop at the Vilar will feature Randy and his band performing many of his major hits. There is not enough time in one evening to perform them all. He’s had 22 number one hits and many more chart-topping singles. A favorite of fans and critics alike, he has had six number one albums, won six Grammy’s, six CMA’s, nine ACM’s, ten AMA’s, seven Dove Awards, and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. We are pleased to have Randy Travis as one of the many wonderful musicians in our Summer Concert Series as we continue to provide our community with the rare opportunity to see their favorite artists in our intimate venue.
