County fair’s cookie contest coming
EAGLE, Colorado ” Local cookie connoisseurs alert: This is the Eagle County Fair contest specifically geared to you.
The fair’s Cookie Jar Contest, sponsored by Red Canyon Cafe in Eagle, is slated Wednesday, July 30. Contestants are challenged to decorate a one-half gallon jar to reflect the theme “Mother Earth.” Preferably, the container and the decorations are made from recycled, food safe material.
Inside the jar, contestants must place a minimum of one dozen homemade cookies, which will be sold to the public following the judging. In addition to the filled jar, contestants must place three cookies on a paper plate covered with a Ziploc bag so that the judges have easy access to the baked goods.
The contest will be judged as follows: 50 percent, creativity of the container, use of recycled products and easy access and 50 percent will be awarded for flavor, texture and appearance of cookies.
Use of copyrighted characters or slogans are not allowed.
Participate in The Longevity Project
The Longevity Project is an annual campaign to help educate readers about what it takes to live a long, fulfilling life in our valley. This year Kevin shares his story of hope and celebration of life with his presentation Cracked, Not Broken as we explore the critical and relevant topic of mental health.
Cookie jars will remain on display at the Eagle River Center until Sunday, Aug. 3. Entries that are not picked up will be discarded. Cookies will be removed from the jars and sold at the fair bake sale.
The contest winner will receive a cookie jar donated by sponsor Red Canyon Cafe.
Contestants can register their cookie jars from 6 to 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, July 30 at the Eagle River Center.
