County looks at emergency planning for 2015
Board: Eagle County Commissioners
Meeting: Nov. 8 regular work session.
Present: Jon Stavney, Sara Fisher, Peter Runyon.
Who they talked to: County emergency manager Barry Smith.
What they talked about: Smith told the commissioners about an “integrated emergency management” course held in Maryland by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. That agency pays to transport and house local officials for several days of training.
Applications for the course are due in January, and Smith said it might be a good idea for the county to send a contingent in advance of the 2015 World Alpine Ski Championships.
What’s next? The commissioners asked Smith to draft a plan regarding what kinds of training various county and local officials should have, not only for the championships, but also to keep the county current with other federal programs and grant requests.
