County trails agency will start planning Wolcott path
Wolcott, CO Colorado
EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado – The county’s trails group wants to get started quickly on a section of trail that would start in Wolcott and run about 2.2 miles to the west.
Talking to the Eagle County Commissioners Monday, Ellie Caryl, director of ECO Trails, said this is a good time to start planning work on a trail segment, mainly because professional services are easier to find and less costly these days.
Money for planning that section of trail – about $35,000 – isn’t in the 2009 budget, Caryl said, but there is money available in the county’s trails funds. The commissioners would have to approve any new spending as part of a “supplemental budget” over the next several weeks.
Given that there’s money in the bank for the work, commissioners Jon Stavney and Sara Fisher said they’d be willing to appropriate the money. Commissioner Peter Runyon wasn’t at the meeting.
The trail starting from Wolcott would roughly parallel U.S. Highway 6, but would be off the highway as much as possible, Caryl said.
ECO Trails is already working on building a trail segment from Dowd Junction to Minturn this year.
