Craig candidate faces charge for spending too much
CRAIG, Colorado ” A Craig man who unsuccessfully ran for City Council is being prosecuted by city officials after overspending on his campaign.
Authorities say Francisco Reina’s campaign report showed he spent about $1,500 on his campaign, more than three times the limit.
Reina faces a maximum fine of $1,000 and up to 180 days in jail.
He apologized to the council at a meeting Tuesday, saying he purchased advertisements in the Craig Daily Press to tell his life story.
City officials say another councilman failed to turn in his spending report on time but his receipts indicate no wrongdoing.
