Crash near Wolcott kills woman
Vail, CO Colorado
WOLCOTT, Colorado – A Broomfield woman died Saturday in a one-car crash on Interstate 70 west of Wolcott.
Ferrell J. Colmeneres, 71, was driving on I-70 westbound in a 1996 Toyota Camry when it traveled off the right side of the road, side swiped a guardrail, crossing both westbound lanes, and hit the concrete divider, according to the State Patrol. The car then rotated out into the lanes of travel, rotating counter-clockwise and coming to rest in the westbound lanes.
Colmeneres was found to be unresponsive in the car by a state trooper, who was first on the scene. Colmeneres was taken to Vail Valley Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead, State Patrol said.
The accident happened at about 4 p.m.
The Colorado State Patrol is continuing its investigation to determine the cause of the crash. A previous medical condition and driver distraction are being considered as possible factors leading to the crash, police said. During the initial investigation, it was discovered the driver’s side seat belt was defective and not usable, according to the State Patrol.
