Vail Daily staff report
Avon, CO Colorado
Dominique Taylor/Vail DailyFilimon Martinez walks to the bus stop to try and take a bus to work at the Vail Valley Medical Center as traffic moves slowly eastbound on Highway 6 Friday in Eagle-Vail. A spring storm that brought heavy snow early in the morning shut down Interstate 70 for several hours due to multiple accidents and caused heavy traffic on Highway 6.

AVON – Multiple car accidents have closed Interstate 70 at the Avon interchange.

Earlier in the morning, authorities said accidents had blocked the eastbound lanes near Minturn.

A handful of people had already come into Vail Discount Tires in Eagle-Vail this week to remove their snow tires for the season, store manager Bill Britt said.

“I actually told a couple people yesterday when we were doing it: ‘You do realize it’s going to snow?'” Britt said.

Snow began falling overnight and is expected to continue throughout the day. The National Weather Forecast for Friday for Vail is 3 to 7 inches of snow. Another 3 inches could fall tonight before the snow tapers off Saturday.
