Crews still working on Dowd Junction slide
Vail, CO Colorado
EAGLE-VAIL, Colorado ” U.S. Highway 6 through Dowd Junction is open from 6:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. and all day Sundays, but will remain closed during the day, the Colorado Department of Transportation says.
Crews are strengthening the wall between the highway and Interstate 70 that collapsed April 13. The will remain closed during the day until at least Aug. 1, the Department of Transportation says.
Crews are installing 300 anchors 100 feet deep along 500 feet of the hillside. The anchors are steel rods surrounding by concrete grout.
All businesses on Highway 6 can be accessed from the west side during the daytime closure.
“It is much safer for the public and our crews if we can keep the roadway closed during our working hours,” said Julia Stover, public information officer for Hayward Baker. “We also think this will allow us to shave some time off the total duration of the project.”
Updates will be sent and projected re-open and completion dates will be updated on the Colorado Department of Transportation’s traveler information site ” http://www.cotrip.org ” under “alerts and restrictions” and “scheduled lane closure reports.”
