Crime prevention seminar offered

Daily Staff Writer

A free crime prevention seminar will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. today in the town of Vail Council Chambers, 75 S. Frontage Road.

Hosted by the Vail Police Department and Eagle County Crime Stoppers, the seminar will include useful tips in preventing fraud, shoplifting and robberies, as well as information on how to recognize false identification and counterfeit currency.

Detective Dirk Etheridge of the Vail Police Department encourages business owners, employees and citizens of the valley to attend the seminar to become better informed about preventing crime.

“The topics presented in the seminar cover approximately 95 percent of the crime we see from our businesses,” he said. “We’d much rather interact with our business community on a proactive basis through these education and awareness initiatives than responding after the fact when a crime has just taken place.”

In 2003, the Vail Police Department investigated 150 fraud cases and 542 larceny and theft cases.

Reservations are recommended. For additional details or to RSVP, contact Detective Etheridge at 479-2212.
