The search for two men suspected of robbing a Carbondale convenience store shifted to Eagle County overnight, authorities said Wednesday.

A cellphone belonging to one of the suspects pinged off a cell tower in Eagle County on Tuesday night, which led authorities to look for the two men in the Fryingpan area, said Pitkin County Sheriff Joe DiSalvo. The search, however, did not turn up either Nicholas Ameral or Benjamin Weeks, both 19, he said.

A phone message left for an Eagle County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson seeking more information was not immediately returned.

The search in the Holland Hills area near Basalt is not continuing Wednesday, said Pitkin County Deputy Jesse Steindler.

“It’s not worthwhile to keep searching that area,” he said.

Overnight, two Colorado State Patrol troopers monitored Highway 82 in the Basalt area, while Pitkin County deputies regularly patrolled the Rio Grande Trail and other areas in the vicinity of Tuesday’s search for the men, he said.
