EDWARDS — A man left his car running and the doors unlocked in front of a gas station, and now police are searching for the stolen vehicle.

The Eagle County Sheriff’s Office received the call about 5:40 a.m. Thursday, when the victim reported that his 2007 Honda Civic had been stolen. The dark blue four-door sedan’s Colorado license plate is 762VEH.

The car was stolen from the Edwards Stop & Save, 47 Edwards Village Blvd.

The victim said that as he entered the store, an unidentified male held the door for him. After about five minutes the victim noticed his car was missing from the parking lot.

When sheriff’s deputies reviewed the store’s digital surveillance video from around the time of the incident, a man is seen entering the store. While walking around he removes what appears to be a handgun from his backpack and places it into his front hoodie pocket.

He then walks toward the front of the store and holds the door open for the victim. The suspect is then seen walking toward the vehicle and a few seconds later the victim’s vehicle is seen driving through the store’s parking lot.

The suspect is described as a white or Hispanic male, approximately 5 feet 6 inches, medium build, mid-20s, with a “stubbly” mustache. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie with a white logo and lettering.

The suspect and vehicle are believed to be in or near the Denver area.

If you see the vehicle or the suspect involved in this crime do not approach them, the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. Instead, contact your local law enforcement office or dial 911.
