Crossroads’ council review begins Jan. 18

VAIL – The Vail Town Council will get its first official look at the redevelopment plans for the Crossroads project at its evening meeting Tuesday. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. in the Vail Town Council Chambers, with the Crossroads discussion appearing fifth on the agenda. No decisions or votes are scheduled. The Crossroads redevelopment application was submitted to the town’s advisory Planning and Environmental Commission last year. In December, that town board voted 5-2 to deny the proposal.Tuesday’s review will introduce the project to the Town Council and provide members with information and a chance to ask questions.The discussion will include a 30-minute overview by the town’s planning staff, a 30-minute presentation from the developer, and comments from the public, which will be limited to two minutes per person.Crossroads was built in 1968 and is located on East Meadow Drive in Vail Village. The center now has a mix of retail shops, a movie theater, professional offices, surface parking, galleries and a grocery store as well as condominiums above the commercial spaces. The redevelopment proposal includes a half-acre public plaza, ice skating rink, a four-screen theater, a family arcade and a bowling alley. The proposal includes an underground parking garage with more than 500 spaces, and 76 condominiums above 60,000 square feet of retail area. Vail, Colorado
