CU Boulder sets speed limit for bikes
BOULDER, Colorado ” The University of Colorado has a new speed limit for bikes anywhere on campus, except in dedicated bike lanes: 5 mph.
“I think it would be hard to ride a bike 5 miles per hour without falling over,” freshman philosophy major Julian Hirschbaum said while unchaining his bike from a campus rack Friday.
CU police Cmdr. Brad Wiesley said officers will give warnings, but if tickets are written, it could amount to a $50 ticket.
The university rolled out speed limits for bikes and other vehicles as part of an effort to make its campus safer for pedestrians and others. There was no bike speed limit before, said Casey Jones, director of CU’s parking and transportation services.
