Cyclists hurt in two hit-and-runs in Eagle County
July 3, 2010
WOLCOTT, Colorado – Two cyclists were injured, one seriously, in separate hit-and-run incidents in Eagle County on Saturday.
Kerry White was riding her bicycle from Eagle to Avon when she was hit by a car Saturday morning, and police are still looking for the driver.
The hit-and-run accident happened about two miles west of Wolcott, where Highway 6 passes under Interstate 70.
Kerry White was commuting to work on her bicycle, heading eastbound on Highway 6, when a car struck her from behind at a fairly high rate of speed around 7 a.m., said her husband Stephen White.
The Colorado State Patrol responded to the scene and found a silver rearview mirror on the scene. The mirror is from a Suburu, but police don’t know which Suburu model, Stephen White said.
“The car didn’t even slow down,” Stephen White said. “By the time (Kerry) looked up, the car was gone.”

The Whites were especially worried because Kerry White is 27 weeks pregnant. The couple was at the Vail Valley Medical Center Saturday afternoon waiting for results about the baby. Kerry White did not suffer any major injuries.
“Everything’s looking good so far,” Stephen White said. “They’re just monitoring the baby to make sure.”
The couple hopes anyone with information about the silver Suburu, which was traveling eastbound on Highway 6 around 7 a.m. through Wolcott, will call police. The car likely has a missing passenger-side rearview mirror.

In the other incident, a cyclist was riding east on the shoulder of Interstate 70 near the Avon exit.
A black 2010 Mercedes collided with the man, identified as 33-year-old Steven Milo, of New York. Milo was thrown from the bike, and the Mercedes continued eastbound on I-70, exiting in Avon.
Milo suffered serious injuries and was taken to Vail Valley Medical Center for treatment.
Police said they found the car and its driver, 52-year-old Martin Erzinger of Greenwood Village, in Avon.
Erzinger was booked into the Eagle County Detention Center with charges pending through the Eagle County District Attorney’s office.
