DA: Deputy justified in shooting Colorado ski resort worker
BOULDER, Colorado ” The Boulder County, Colorado district attorney says a sheriff’s deputy was justified in shooting a ski lift operator who killed the general manager of the Eldora ski area.
District Attorney Stan Garnett said in a decision letter Wednesday that deputy John Seifert won’t face charges in the shooting of 24-year-old Derik Bonestroo.
Authorities say Bonestroo shot 49-year-old Brian Mahon Dec. 30 at the resort’s pump house. Bonestroo then fled, exchanging gunfire with Seifert before shooting and killing himself.
Garnett says Seifert thought Bonestroo would hurt other people or take hostages after the deputy stopped his patrol car behind Bonestroo’s car.
