Daily Editorial: Hits & Misses
Hit: To Mother Nature, and the boatloads of white powder she has given the Vail Valley this week. As of Friday, Vail Mountain had received about two feet of snow over the past week Lets hope this holiday gift will bring the valleys snowpack up to average. Miss: To the hoodlums responsible for smashing an ice sculpture in Vail Village early on Monday morning. The sculpture was carved by Scott Rella last week to raise money for kids with cancer. Anyone with information about the incident should call Vail police at 479-2201. Hit: To the towns of Vail and Eagle, Beaver Creek and all the retailers who showed their best this year by decorating trees, buildings and more for the holiday season. Way to get into the holiday spirit. (We hope we didnt leave anyone out.)Hit: To Avon, for greening up its bus fleet. The town used grant money from the Federal Transit Administration to pay for 80 percent of the cost of adding a hybrid bus and a higher efficiency diesel bus. The fuel savings of adding the hybrid may not offset the higher cost of a hybrid, but helping the environment cant always be measured in dollars and cents.
