Dale White of Edwards is dead at 53

Dale Edward White of Edwards died June 18 in Montrose, CO. He was 53.White was known to his friends and family as a free spirit who lived his life to the fullest. He lived most of his life in Colorado but also spent some time New Orleans and New Zealand.White was born April 4, 1952 in Rapid City, SD, the son of Marion “Butch” and Betty (Decker) White. He grew up and attended school in Montrose, SD and graduated from Montrose High School in 1970. After graduation from high school, he attended the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, SD for a semester. After numerous adventures with his high school friends, he came home to work with his father in the drywall business. When his father died, White became a self-employed drywall contractor in Colorado. At one point, White lived for six months on the Continental Divide in a teepee. He had traveled to Alaska, Hawaii, Cozumel, Jamaica, Panama, Belize, Venezuela and the Fiji Islands. He loved hunting, especially bow hunting for elk. He also enjoyed motorcycling, scuba diving, bicycling, dirt biking, snow skiing, snowboarding, spelunking, rock climbing, hiking and disc golf. Acquaintances say White was a man who chose to live out his dreams, but that he always made time for friends and family and will be greatly missed.White is survived by his mother, Betty White-Painter and her husband, Frank, of Montrose, S.D.; his three brothers, Gary of Bellvue, NE, Marion “Red” of Hartford, and David of Dell Rapids; his three sisters, Ellen “Ellie” Arlt of Volin, Karen Hoffman of Sioux Falls, and Marilyn Campbell of Harrisburg; and his many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Butch and brother Marlin.The funeral was held Thursday in Dell Rapids, SD. Interment will be in Colorado.Vail, Colorado
