VAIL – The Vail Valley Foundation, organizers of the Vail International Dance Festival, announced that ticket sales for the 2011 festival reached an all-time record for the first day of sales, beating previous records by more than one-third. Tickets for the two-week festival, which runs July 31 through Aug. 13, are available online at

“It’s been terrific to see the enthusiasm for the Dance Festival from all around the country growing over the last years, and setting an opening day record for sales in these challenging economic times is truly remarkable,” said Damian Woetzel, artistic director for the Vail International Dance Festival and former principal dancer with the New York City Ballet. “It’s also very heartening to know that so many people will come to the Vail Valley to experience the festival, strongly underlining the power of the arts as a driver for local economies.”

Dance enthusiasts from all parts of the country have purchased tickets, including Florida, New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and California, with the top sellers being opening night with New York City Ballet Moves on July 31, the signature gala events International Evenings of Dance on Aug. 5 and 6 and the Ballroom Spectacular on Aug. 7. All 11 performances are currently on sale, with the exception of the specially priced sampler program Dance for $20.11, which goes on sale June 1.
