‘Dancing with the Stars’ steppers to perform at Vail International Dance Festival
VAIL – While they were competitors with separate partners on ABC’s hit show “Dancing With The Stars” last season, Anna Trebunskaya and Jonathan Roberts will team up Aug. 12, as the professional dance duo and reality TV stars join forces with four other international couples at the 2006 Vail International Dance Festival for “Ballroom’s Best.””Dancing With The Stars” viewers will remember that Trebunskaya was partnered with former NFL wide receiver Jerry Rice, while Roberts was paired with television news journalist Giselle Fernandez. During the show’s inaugural season, Roberts teamed up with supermodel Rachel Hunter.Trebunskaya began dancing at the age of 6 in her native Russia. Her parents were professional ballroom dancers, while also owning a dance studio. The family moved to the United States when she was 17, and her mother continues to make her costumes today. In addition to her television credits, Trebunskaya captured the 1998 U.S. Amateur Youth Standard Ballroom crown, while also earning top honors in the Latin category at the 2004 U.S. Rising Star Championships.
Roberts is one of the few ballroom competitors representing the United States that was actually born in this country. He discovered his passion for ballroom dancing when he went to see the Al Pacino movie “Scent of a Woman,” the famous tango scene striking a chord. He took advantage of the free ballroom lesson offered on his movie ticket stub and the rest is history. From a competitive standpoint, Roberts is a three-time U.S. Pro-Am Latin champion and the 2004 U.S. Rising Star Latin winner. Trebunskaya and Roberts will team with some of the world’s premiere ballroom couples for an exciting and entertaining evening, comprised of Latin, tango, waltz and exhibition dance.Other Ballroom’s Best international couples will include Hanna Karttunen and Victor da Silva, Ana Llorente and Brian Jolly, Alison Epsom and Paul Killick and Eulia Baranovsky and Steven Dougherty.
