Dark sky in effect in Avon Nov. 17
AVON, Colorado – The town’s “Dark Sky Preservation Initiative,” designed to reduce offensive lighting and reduce light pollution, goes into effect Nov. 17. By that day, all outdoor lighting must conform with the town’s outdoor lighting ordinance.The regulations include:• Style, color and design of light fixtures shall be compatible with the overall design, concept and use of materials for the building • All lighting must be shielded so that the source of illumination is not visible from the property line. Light fixtures near adjacent property may require special shielding devices to prevent light trespass. • All outdoor lighting shall conform with the definition for full cut-off fixtures with the light source downcast and fully shielded. The town’s Planning Department must approve all new light fixtures.
