David Archuleta has been a recognizable voice in the pop music world since his runner-up finish in the 2008 season of “American Idol.” The singer brings his take on Christmas classics as well as his own melodic pop songs to Beaver Creek for a concert at the Vilar Performing Arts Center on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Archuleta released his first critically acclaimed self-titled debut album in 2008. The Murray, Utah, native soared to No. 2 on the Billboard charts, buoyed by his smash single “Crush.” The successful debut was followed up by “Christmas from the Heart” (2009) and “The Other Side of Down” (2010).

Most recently, Archuleta is featured on The Mormon Tabernacle Choir’s holiday album “Glad Christmas Tidings” (released in September). The 12-track album includes live recordings from the Choir’s 2010 Christmas concert from Temple Square, a musical spectacle that was seen by more than 80,000 concert-goers last year.

Christmastime has always held a special place in Archuleta’s heart.

“I love Christmas music more than anything else,” said Archuleta in a recent interview.

His Beaver Creek concert is the final show on his nationwide “My Kind of Christmas” tour. The name stems from a fan’s idea, playing off “My Kind of Perfect,” a song from the album “The Other Side of Down.”

Archuleta was the seventh-season runner-up on the popular “American Idol” television show, receiving 44 percent of more than 97 million votes.

Opening for Archuleta is Jeff LeBlanc. His immediately familiar-sounding blend of pop and acoustic rock has taken him from dorm room concerts at Connecticut’s Sacred Heart University to a 60-date tour across the country, where he is praised as everything from “the new John Mayer” to an artist “perfectly in tune with his audience.”

Tickets for Archuleta’s My Kind of Christmas Tour at the VPAC are $45 or $65, based on seating, and are available online at vilarpac.org, by phone at 888-920-ARTS or in person at the VPAC Box Office in Beaver Creek and Marketplace Box Office in Vail Village.
