EAGLE – Fire crews spent Sunday afternoon trying to locate and extinguish a wildfire near Adam’s Rib Ranch south of Eagle. Firefighters suspect lightning ignited a few trees, causing enough smoke that several nearby residents called 911 to report it, said Ross Wilmore, the fire management officer for the region’s Interagency Fire Office. As of early Sunday evening, crews were working to put out the fire and it was expected to be extinguished quickly. Wilmore said it is vital that fire officials are notified about possible wildland fires promptly.”It is absolutely important that they report this kind of stuff,” Wilmore said, speaking on a cell phone as he drove to a wildfire in Summit County. “The residents prove to be some of our best sources for smoke reports.”Hot temperatures and relatively dry weather have made the High Country ripe for wildfires, fire officials say.
