EDWARDS – The Vail, Downvalley and Western Eagle Rotary clubs are seeking applicants for the organization’s various scholarships, which will be awarded this spring for study abroad programs in 2006 through 2008.College students – undergraduates or graduates – who live in Eagle County or whose families live or have recently lived in the valley are eligible for a $25,000 Rotary ambassadorial scholarship worth, two $13,000 cultural scholarships and a $50,000 world-peace sholarship to study towards a masters degree at one of eight universities worldwide.Ambassadorial scholarships are for one academic year abroad and include round-trip transportation, tuition, room, board, some educational supplies and language training up to a maximum of $25,000. These scholarships, which provide for study abroad in more than 160 countries, are generally awarded to college students for post-graduate studies.During their studies abroad, Rotary ambassadorial scholars act as “ambassadors of goodwill,” says local Rotarian Eddie Blender. The students will talk to local Rotary clubs, schools and civic organizations, he said. The cultural ambassadorial scholarships fund three months of intensive language study and cultural immersion in another country. The scholarship covers transportation, tuition and lodging. These scholarships have most recently been granted to teachers, counselors and other professionals.The Rotary world peace scholarship funds two-year masters degree programs in peace initiatives.
