Death of toddler in vacant Colorado home investigated
MONUMENT, Colo. – Monument police say the death of a toddler found in the basement of a vacant home is being investigated as a homicide.
It’s not yet known how the toddler died and the results of an autopsy Saturday morning have not been released.
Monument Police Chief Jacob Shirk says police were called to the vacant home Friday afternoon after construction workers renovating the house found the body.
Shirk says the home was previously rented but it has been unoccupied for some time and is now for sale. Authorities say they are looking for the people who last resided at the home and trying to find out if they had a child.
Shirk says there are no missing-child cases in Monument.
The age and gender of the child was not immediately available.
