Dec. 31 busiest day on slopes for Aspen/Snowmass
Aspen, CO Colorado
ASPEN, Colorado – The Aspen Skiing Co.’s busiest day on the slopes this holiday season was Thursday, Dec. 31, as expected, according to company spokesman Jeff Hanle.
The number of skiers and riders at the Skico’s four mountains – Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Snowmass and Buttermilk – topped 19,500, Hanle said. While that is an impressive total, it has topped 20,000 on occasion in other years, he said. Warm, bluebird days particularly draw out the crowds. The slopes remained relatively busy through Saturday, then they cleared out.
Other leading economic indicators for Aspen and Snowmass Village won’t be out for a few more weeks. An occupancy report later this month will show how tourist accommodations fared. The city sales tax report that reflects the holidays won’t be out until February.
