December was warmer and wetter
The month’s statistics did present one anomaly -there were no below-zero temperatures recorded.
“I can’t remember a December when we didn’t have below-zero temperatures,” said Doll, 82. He’s been watching Avon’s weather for 33 years.
Snowfall totalled 21.5 inches, nearly 20 percent higher than the 20 year average of 18 inches. That contained 1.21 inches of meltwater.
The warmest day, Dec. 7 saw temperatures hit 52 degrees while he coldest temperature recorded – 2 degrees – came Dec. 17. The average daily low was 14.09 degrees while the average daily high temperature at 34.02 degrees.
The average daily temperature in December was 24.19. That’ s more than six degrees higher than the 20 year average.
“It sure seems like the weather is getting warmer, Doll said.
