Delta Co. school candidate a registered sex offender
DELTA ” A Delta County Board of Education candidate is a registered sex offender, which officials said doesn’t prevent the man from running for office.
Dale Haag, 48, said the 1987 misdemeanor conviction in Orange City, Iowa, was a youthful indiscretion involving a 19-year-old woman. He said it happened while he was working a facility for developmentally challenged people.
“There was this situation where I was flirting with a gal, and I patted her rear end and flipped her on the boob. She told her friend, and a staff person overheard them,” he told The Daily Sentinel. “But it was a stupid move.”
Haag, who was on parole at the time, was convicted of assault with intent to commit sexual abuse and required to register as a sex offender. He declined to talk about his previous offenses with the newspaper.
Delta County Clerk Ann Eddins said the conviction doesn’t prevent Haag from running.
“The only two requirements are that it cannot be a sex assault against a child, and they have to be a registered voter,” Eddins said.
