Democrats must register by Friday to join caucus
The Democratic caucus is a closed caucus which means you must be affiliated with the party to participate.”Since there will be no presidential primary vote this year in Colorado, the opportunity to cast your vote for a Democratic nominee is at caucus,” says Debbie K. Marquez, co-chair of the Eagle County Democratic Party. “Since it is a presidential election year and no primary, we expect a huge attendance at the precinct caucus.”The precinct caucus is the first step in becoming a delegate to the county, Congressional district, state convention and the Democratic National Convention in Boston. Those who don’t attend the caucus, cannot be a delegate.”The caucus is a very important step in the nominating process. It is also important for developing the “neighborhood’ precinct organization for the next two years,” Marquez says.Aside from choosing delegates, the caucus elects precinct committee representatives and election judges. Democratic Platform resolutions are also voted on and passed on to the County Platform Committee, Marquez says. The Eagle County Democratic Party will have further caucus instruction and information available on their web page at http://www.eaglecountydemocrats.org and with additional media notices. Those interesting in attending the caucus can registered to vote or declare party affiliation with the Eagle County clerk & recorder’s offices in Eagle, Avon or El Jebel. The office can be contacted at 328-8710. If you have moved since you last voted, you must change your address so that you can participate in your precinct caucus.
