Denver airport sets passenger record in 2008
DENVER, Colorado ” Denver International Airport has set a record for the number of passengers in a year after its busiest December.
Airport officials say about 51.2 million people traveled through the airport in 2008. The previous record, set in 2007, was about 49.8 million.
Officials say a record-setting December helped the airport exceed the 50 million mark for the year. Nearly 4.1 million passengers went through DIA in December.
Aviation Manager Kim Day says the numbers show Denver is still strong market despite the weakening economy. She says officials had expected a decline at the end of the year as airlines reduced capacity to offset operating costs.
