Denver cops: Grandma used child to shoplift
The Denver Post
A Denver grandmother has been arrested and faces a possible child abuse charge for using a 7-year-old child to help her shoplift, police said.
The incident happened Wednesday night at the JC Penney store in the Northfield Stapleton shopping center.
The 60-year-old woman is accused of attempting to steal about $1,200 worth of goods including a coat she put on the little girl, said Sonny Jackson, aDenver police department spokesman.
She strolled out of the store with a cart full of goods without paying and was stopped in a parking lot by store security, according to a police report.
Police declined to identify the woman, who faces possible charges of felony theft and child abuse, because they hope to protect the child, a victim in the crime as well, Jackson said.
