Denver Drum Collective hosts drum clinic with Stanton Moore

DENVER – On tour with his band Galactic – the group plays 8150 in Vail Village Aug. 24 – funk drummer Stanton Moore will also be giving a drum clinic in Denver Aug. 27 from 4-5:30 p.m. at the Walnut Room.The class will teach drummers, percussionists and musicians of all ages about the New Orleans native’s traditional, yet innovative approach to the drums. Moore has written a book on funk and New Orleans drumming. He has also starred in two Carl Fischer educational DVDs, “Take It to the Street: A Traditional Approach” and “A Modern Approach to New Orleans Drumming.”During the clinic, The Denver Drum Collective, in association with Rupp’s Drums, will give away door prizes and will raffle off a free snare drum, courtesy of Gretsch.Admission is $15 per person. DELTA – Billed as an affordable blues festival, the Delta Uncompahgre Blues Festival happens Sept. 30 in Delta and is free. This year’s festival will feature headliner Maria Muldaur, as well as Harry Harpoon, Howard Berkman, David Starr, and Mike Gwinn.Best known for her seductive 1974 hit “Midnight at the Oasis,” Muldaur has continued singing her own brand of blues, folk, gospel, rock, and even jazz, ever since. Her first release for Telarc was “Fanning the Flames” in 1996, with slide guitarist Sonny Landreth, harpist Huey Lewis and singers Johnny Adams, Bonnie Raitt, and Mavis Staples. GOLDEN – Thomas the Tank Engine, a real steam engine that has been converted into Thomas, is set to roll into Golden for the Day Out With Thomas Sept. 16-24. The 11th annual U.S. tour visits Golden as part of a ten-month ride on the rails that steams into heritage railroads in over 40 U.S. cities. Over 1 million passengers are expected to ride with Thomas the Tank Engine, the classic storybook engine, at these events. The 25-minute train ride with Thomas the Tank Engine will depart every 25 minutes, rain or shine, between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. daily. Tickets are $16 for ages 2 and older.
