Denver father acquitted in girl’s shootout death

DENVER – A man on trial for the death of his 10-year-old daughter killed during an armed robbery at his apartment has been acquitted of reckless child abuse resulting in death.

A jury Monday convicted Leo Cisneros of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. He faces between 16 and 24 years at sentencing Nov. 5.

Prosecutors accused Cisneros of the Nov. 26, 2007, death of his daughter, Aurelia, who died in a gun battle when three robbers broke into Cisneros’ apartment.

Prosecutors say Cisneros put his daughter in danger by dealing marijuana out of his apartment, making it the target of robbers.

Defense attorneys countered that police botched the investigation and that prosecutors were focusing on the victim of a crime.
